Young woman beaten to death by a rescue dog who “snatched her arm” while neighbors reported “horrible screams”

A young woman was attacked to death by a dog who “bitten off his arm” while lying in bed, according to local residents.

The woman, called locally Keira Ladlow, was alone at home when she was brutally attacked by the dog, believed to belong to a family member and live at the address.

Locals heard the girl scream for help and the dog barked “incredibly loud”.

His body was found by a disturbed relative.

Police and paramedics rushed to the semi-detached house in Kitts Green, Birmingham, at about 2 pm Friday.

Keira, about 20, was pronounced dead on the spot by the emergency services.

‘HEARTBREAKING’

The rescue dog, believed to be a mastiff, will now be euthanized “humanly”.

A source said: “The poor girl was heard by neighbors screaming and screaming for help.

“The screams were extremely loud. They could also hear a dog barking incredibly loudly in the house. It was constant.

“The girl was seriously injured. It was horrible. It is heartbreaking. Her family is totally devastated.”

Abeygail Barrett, who is believed to be a relative, wrote on Facebook: “Her previous dog was a pit bull who died of cancer, so she rescued this dog after finding it in a garden where it remained lit and turned off for four years.

“Sometimes dogs are rescued with all good intentions, but their past can make them tragically unpredictable.”

A neighbor said: “When the police and ambulances arrived, we were told to leave because something had happened, then I learned that a young woman had died.

“I saw the dog being taken and, as far as I can tell, he looked fine.

“I had never seen it before and heard it from a neighbor who only walked at certain times. She pulled her dog away because she thought it was violent.

“I saw on the news that it was a Staffie, but it looked more like a Bull Mastiff.”

A disturbed family member told Sun, “It was a rescue dog, that’s it.”

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “No one else was on the property at the time, and the woman’s family signed the dog, believed to be a Staffordshire cross, to the police. He will be humanely put to sleep.

“Death is being treated as a tragic incident, but without suspicious circumstances.

“A file will be prepared for the coroner in due course.”
