Former President Donald Trump on Sunday destroyed the Biden government by turning the migratory crisis on the southern border into a complete “national disaster”.
In a statement released on Sunday night, Trump also asked President Biden to complete the construction of a border wall and accused the administration of “causing death and human tragedy”.
“In the space of just [a] a few weeks ago, the Biden administration turned a national triumph into a national disaster, ”Trump said in the statement.
“They are losing their heads and getting water quickly.”
Thousands of migrants have traveled to the U.S.-Mexico border since Trump stepped down, forcing the Biden government to start housing unaccompanied children who crossed into the U.S. at migrant facilities.
Biden, who has faced criticism from Republicans for reversing a series of Trump border policies, said on Sunday that he plans to visit the southern border “at some point”.
Speaking to reporters after returning to the Camp David White House, Biden said his government is working to ensure that potential migrants seeking asylum in the United States do so in their home countries.
The previous Sunday, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said the United States would not refuse unaccompanied children.
In his statement, Trump also criticized Mayorkas.
“Secretary Mayorkas’ pathetic and clueless performance on today’s Sunday programs was a national shame,” said the former president.
“His presentation of self-satisfaction – in the midst of the massive crisis he helped to project – is further proof that he is unable to lead DHS.”
Trump added that a wall along the border – which he made a trademark of his first presidential campaign – is still needed to secure the international crossing.
“They should finish the wall right away, which can be done in a matter of weeks – they should never have stopped,” said Trump.
“They are causing death and human tragedy. In addition to the obvious, drugs are arriving in our country at record levels from the southern border, not to mention human trafficking and sex, ”he added.
