The Philadelphia Eagles officially introduced Nick Sirianni as their next head coach on Friday, and it didn’t go well.
Sirianni was signed by the Eagles last week after three seasons with the Indianapolis Colts as an offensive coordinator. The 39-year-old will take over from Doug Pederson, who was fired after five seasons and a Super Bowl run with the franchise.
Although Sirianni said nothing bad, there was a time when he seemed to have a hard time getting his message across.
Sirianni gave a long rant about the systems and what he hoped to implement in Philadelphia. It was as if Sirianni had started the sentence without knowing where he was going and just hoped to find him on the way.
“The next thing that is very important to me is that we build a smart football team, that we have a smart football team here, and I know we have people in place to do that,” he said. “The first part of being smart is knowing what to do. Let’s … let’s know … we’ll have systems in place that are easier to learn, right? It is complicated for the defense or the attack that they will face, or for the group of special teams that they will face, but it is easy for us to learn. Because when we can learn our system, and we can get good at our system, then our talent can take over. Less thought means that talent takes control. But we need to have systems in place, and we will have systems in place to do that. “
Fans criticize Sirianni for his talk about ‘systems’
What kind of “systems” will Sirianni and the Eagles have next year?
Who knows. Looking back at what he said, it was difficult to get anything concrete out of that coach’s speech.
The fans obviously noticed.
The next time someone says “Bieniemy didn’t get the job because he doesn’t do a good interview”, I’ll show them the Sirianni and Campbell pressing masterpieces we saw this week.

This happened to me once and it’s a nightmare, so I don’t blame Sirianni, but “less thoughtful acquisition of equal talents” in this context left me screaming. https://t.co/sVdKl3056i

My system, our system sounds like all sports bets put together in one.
I look forward to Sirianni’s 1-900 number.
Seriously, did this guy conquer the room, Philly? https://t.co/1oCZ0AJjLs

It can be up to the nerves or whatever you want. Sirianni’s introductory press conference could soon be forgotten.
Until then, however, Eagles fans apparently have many great new systems to look forward to this fall.
