The developers of ‘GTA 6’ learned a critical lesson from the biggest video game failure of 2020

Grand Theft Auto 6 I cannot forget the only player. While Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 Both featured single player campaigns, Rockstar focused more energy on building online modes for these games, rather than continuing the single player stories in a sequence. At a time when many franchises have clumsily adopted the “games as a service” model, it would be invigorating if GTA 6 could focus only on a cohesive single player experience, leaving the GAAS elements to GTA Online.

New comments from Rockstar indicate that developers are well aware of this problem, suggesting that GTA 6 will not neglect a player’s experience.

GQ recently talked to senior members of the Rockstar team about the Cayo Perico Heist launched for GTA Online Last week. Although there is much that GTA 6 observers can speculate about this new theft, it is notable for being open to solo players, who will reap greater rewards, as they do not need to share it.

Design Director Scott Butchard GQ that Rockstar plans to incorporate more elements for a player GTA Online. More importantly, however, GQ asked if Rockstar will continue to tell stories to a single player and Butchard said “absolutely”.

Technically, Rockstar has not publicly confirmed that it is developing GTA 6. We only know of its existence thanks to leaks and reports from sites like Kotaku. Still, this comment by Butchard indicates that future Rockstar projects will still have an element of focused single player, with titles like GTA Online filling the void for a live game that can be played alone or with friends.

An April 2020 report from Kotaku that provoked the new GTA game also suggested this more focused scope. “A plan that management drew up for the next game, a new entry into the Grand Theft Auto series, is to start with a moderate-sized release (which, by Rockstar standards, would still be a big game) which is then expanded with regular updates over time, which can help to mitigate stress and crisis, “he said. .

GTA V managed to deliver an impressive player experience in 2013, and while Rockstar hasn’t added much in terms of a new story, we don’t have to worry about them moving too far away from the formula for a player with GTA 6.

Games like Marvel Avengers have failed because of a very ambitious scope, doing many things to maximize profit, rather than just delivering a solid single-player game that is really what fans want. If Rockstar is keeping its focus on a single player and even scaling down GTA 6, so hopefully they won’t lose sight of what makes the series great.

GTA Online is clearly getting stronger than ever as it just received a new assault and will receive a PS5 update in 2021. Rockstar Games is obviously pleased with the spin off GTA Online in its own place and will probably keep you around even after GTA 6 it inevitably arrives.

As it will still be a great source of income for Rockstar at that point, it would make more sense just to see the benefits of tying GTA Online inside GTA 6launch instead of swamp GTA 6 with new and unnecessary multiplayer features or games as a service. These recent comments, as well as those of Kotakureport, suggest that Rockstar plans to do GTA 6 a smaller, more focused and single player experience.

With GTA Online still with active support, that’s what GTA fans need now how GTA V I’ve never seen any single player expansion. Whether Project Americas or any other leak proves to be true or not, we can at least be quite confident that GTA 6 it will not deviate much from what we know and love about Rockstar games and, hopefully, it will still provide a solid player experience.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is in development.
