Sony has just announced three new lenses for its E assembly line:
FE 50mm F2.5 G (model SEL50F25G)
FE 40mm F2.5 G (model SEL40F25G)
FE 24mm F2.8 G (model SEL24F28G)

Not to be confused with the GM (G Master) line, the three lenses are designed to be compact and lightweight.

The three lenses are all the same size (68 mm in diameter x 45 mm), all have the same filter diameter (49 mm) and almost all have the same weight (FE 50mm F2.5 G 174g, FE 40mm F2.5 G 173g and FE 24mm F2.8 G 162g).

This is an important detail if you are looking to use these lenses on a cardan, as they must all be balanced in the same way, without the need for rebalancing.
Having all three lenses would offer a good set, so it is smart for Sony to launch all three at once.
The lenses feature a focus retaining button, focus mode button, aperture ring and aperture click button.
The focus retaining button is customizable in the camera menu and can be assigned to a function that the user prefers.
Non-clickable opening switch

The aperture ring offers a more intuitive and direct feel compared to the operation of opening the camera body when taking pictures or movies. The aperture also provides selectable click stops that can be turned off for movie recording using the open click button.
The lenses feature Linear Response MF, the focus ring responds accurately and linearly when focusing manually, so control appears immediate. Sony claims it is almost equivalent to mechanical manual focusing.
Filtration can be easily added using the 49 mm filter thread which is consistent across all three lenses and is also the same size on the hood.

The lenses are also designed to be resistant to dust and moisture to ensure usability in any outdoor environment.
Fast autofocus

The FE 50mm F2.5 G, FE 40mm F2.5 G and FE 24mm F2.8 G models feature two linear motors to offer fast and accurate autofocus (AF) with excellent tracking performance.
