Scary photo shows a man moments before diving 100 meters to death in Zimbabwe

A frightening photo shows a tourist walking to the edge of Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe – moments before falling more than 100 meters to his death, according to local media.

Roy George Tinashe Dikinya, 40, was taking turns with his family to take pictures of the top of the huge waterfall when it fell over the edge, witnesses told Zimbabwe Newsday.

“We were alerted by the woman’s scream and she told us that he had slipped and fallen,” said one of them to the Dikinya newspaper, who was wearing sandals and holding several things in her left hand in the photo.

“Because of the rain and fog, we were unable to track him after that,” said the witness.

Rescuers from the Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Authority found body parts trapped at the bottom of the canyon, which is at least 100 meters high, the Chronicle said.

The body parts “are trapped among the rocks,” the official’s spokesman, Tinashe Farawo, told the newspaper.

“We were unable to identify him positively because of where the body is being held, but we are sure it is his body,” he said.

“We are currently in communication with other security experts, including the army, to try to find ways to recover the body,” he said, with an option to try to use a military helicopter.

Government Minister Mangaliso Ndlovu sent his “heartfelt condolences” to the family of the tourist from Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe, more than 400 miles from the falls, according to The Herald.

“This is a rare, tragic and unfortunate incident to be witnessed in the powerful Victoria Falls,” said Ndlovu, while promising “all necessary precautions will be taken to prevent the recurrence of such an unfortunate incident.”

It’s just the latest tragedy involving people taking pictures of dangerous locations. A few weeks ago, a Brazilian died after falling from a waterfall taking a selfie.
