‘Saved by the Bell’ star Dustin Diamond hospitalized with cancer

Dustin Diamond, who played Screech’s role in the popular 1990s high school comedy “Saved by the Bell”, is hospitalized with cancer, his manager told CNN on Friday.

Diamond’s health is “serious” and he is being tested at an undisclosed hospital in Florida to determine the type and severity of the cancer, according to his representative.

Stand-up actor and comedian, Diamond is best known for his acting as Samuel “Screech” Powers in the teen series that was recently reinvented by the Peacock streaming service with some of the original stars, though not Diamond.

His 2009 book, “Behind the Bell”, in which Diamond shared behind-the-scenes stories about the filming of “Saved by the Bell”, was controversial.

He also faced some legal problems, serving three months in prison for stabbing a man during a 2014 strife at a bar in Wisconsin.

The actor has appeared on a series of reality shows over the years, including “Celebrity Fit Club”, “Celebrity Boxing 2” and “Celebrity Championship Wrestling”. In 2018, he appeared as his character “Saved by the Bell” in the series “Zack Morris Is Trash”.
