PS5 faceplates coming in 2021, creator challenges Sony to sue

Dbrand, a company known for making device personalization products, plans to launch PlayStation 5 faceplates next year and challenges Sony to sue.

Dbrand is the latest device customization group to announce plans to launch specialized faceplates for the PlayStation 5; in doing so, the company challenged Sony to sue. Once the hardware manufacturer unveiled the PS5’s design this summer, it didn’t take long for fans to start figuring out ways to modify the console’s removable faceplates. Unfortunately, Sony has yet to disclose whether it plans to launch its own customization options at some point in the future.

As a result, other entities are trying to solve the problem on their own and meet the demand for custom faceplates. A website skillfully dubbed PlateStation was the first to hit, displaying several models and even placing orders. Sony quickly put an end to this by sending an order to cease and desist – a move that forced the seller to cancel orders shortly before the launch of the PlayStation 5. One would think that such a series of events would prevent others from pursuing something similar. Evidently, a company does not seem to be afraid of Sony retaliating or not.

The third-party manufacturer dbrand recently adopted Reddit (via MP1st) to announce that it will begin mass production on the PS5’s faceplates later this year. The launch is scheduled for an unspecified date in 2021. Interestingly, the post makes a quick hit on the CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077 drama, saying that orders will not go into operation until the stock at dbrand’s Toronto headquarters is ready for shipping. A part of the message says, “if CD Projekt RED taught us anything, it’s that selling products before finishing them is a bad idea. “In response to concerns about the potential threat of Sony’s legal action, the dbrand account simply replied:”we encourage you to try. “

At the time of writing, the pricing details remain secret, but PS5 owners interested in what dbrand will soon have on offer can sign up for launch notifications. For now, dbrand is focusing on developing matte black versions of the front panels. Customization options for DualSense and its removable card in the middle are also under development at dbrand, although specifications are scarce on this front as well.

Encouraging Sony to take legal action is probably not the wisest move. However, such behavior may simply be emblematic of dbrand’s confidence that he could triumph if a lawsuit occurred. Regardless, the public has no choice but to wait and see how it all plays out in the coming months.

Many PS5 owners are eager to get their hands on interchangeable faceplates for the newly launched system. It is not yet known why Sony has yet to announce whether it plans to launch its own cards. However, a combination of COVID and the console’s supply restrictions may explain why the company doesn’t talk about it. Fans are still finding ways to personalize their PlayStation 5s, with painted and laminated designs.
