LOS ANGELES (KABC) – A 25-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department died of a COVID-19-related illness, the agency announced on Monday.

Deputy Pedro Romo has been assigned to the Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s station since 2004, the department said on Twitter.

Romo has also been a school resource officer at Valencia High School for the past 13 years.

“Please keep your loved ones in your prayers,” said the Sheriff’s Department.

LAPD loses two more officers to COVID-19

California has administered more than 6 million COVID-19 vaccines, but the launch has been slow and unstable and demand continues to exceed supply. The state is in the process of moving to a new distribution system administered by insurance company Blue Shield, which will take away some of the counties’ decision-making power.

The numbers of viruses in the state continue to improve. The rate of positivity of the state test, hospitalizations and deaths are all low. The rate of spread of the virus to others is now at its lowest level in months, Newsom said.
