Since the 49ers switched to third overall choice in the draft, there was a consensus that they plan on casting Alabama quarterback Mac Jones. But they did not give their hand to Alabama coach Nick Saban.

Saban said in the Dan Patrick Show today that the 49ers attended Alabama’s Pro Day, but did not show an exaggerated interest in Jones.

“[Kyle Shanahan] did not ask me anything. I was right next to him. I said hi to him. John Lynch too. They didn’t ask me anything. Maybe they thought they weren’t allowed, ”said Saban, through Andrew Perloff.

Saban has already expressed surprise at the fact that the teams no longer talk to him before summoning players from Alabama, saying that, in addition to Bill Belichick, he rarely hears from an NFL or GM coach who wants to know more about the players Saban has coached. Therefore, 49ers who do not speak to Saban about Jones are not necessarily uncommon, as they continue to hold their cards against the vest.
