The facility for migrant children aged 13 to 17 in Carrizo Springs, Texas, has been criticized by many and seen as similar to immigration tactics of the Trump era.
Psaki defended the decision and said the government is not separating the children from their parents.
“In COVID’s time, this meant that we needed to open up additional space so that we could have educational assistance, so that we could have legal assistance, so that we could have medical and health care and have those children there, treated humanely, until we could find a suitable home, family accommodation for these children, ”said Psaki.
