HOUSTON A Houston police officer shot an armed man on Monday after the man shot and killed a person and brandished a gun in a store, police said.
The shooting was reported at around 2:20 pm, near the intersection of North Main and East 43rd streets.
According to Houston’s chief executive assistant to police, Troy Finner, the man shot and killed a person at block 8500 on North Main Street before entering a nearby convenience store and brandishing his gun.
Finner said a policeman responded to the scene and the man started shooting the policeman. He said the officer responded to the fire and hit the armed man. He said the policeman was not injured and that the man was taken to a hospital for treatment. He said the man was in critical condition.
Finner said investigators are trying to determine whether the man knew the person who was shot and killed.
The man who was shot by the officer has not yet been identified.
Finner said the officer involved in the shooting was placed in administrative duties, which is standard practice.
