Lin Qi, executive producer of the new Netflix series from the creators of Game of Thrones, killed at age 39 from alleged poisoning

Lin Qi, executive producer on the Netflix series of “Game of Thrones” creators David Benioff and DB Weiss, died at age 39 after being poisoned.

Lin was president and CEO of the Yoozoo Group, which he founded in 2009. The company was working with TV creators to adapt a science fiction series based on the Chinese author Liu Cixin’s novel trilogy.

The company confirmed news of the death of its CEO in a statement. Lin was hospitalized on December 16 and doctors quickly determined that he had been poisoned. He died on Christmas day.

“At 5 pm on December 17, 2020, the police received a call from a hospital about a patient with the surname Lin. During the patient’s treatment, the hospital reported that it determined that the patient had been poisoned. After the call, the police started an investigation. According to investigations at the scene and other interviews, police found that a suspect with the surname Xu, who is a co-worker of victim Lin, was the most likely perpetrator of the crime. Suspect Xu has been arrested and investigations are continuing, “says the statement reads (via The Hollywood Reporter).

The vehicle notes that local Chinese media reported that there was a dispute between the executives of the Yoozoo Group that preceded the poisoning, which was allegedly carried out over a cup of plain tea that Lin drank. However, no real details about the crime or about the person apprehended by the police have been released.

Lin was working with Benioff and Weiss on an adaptation of the popular science fiction novels for Netflix. Emmy winners announced that they were on board the project in September as one of their first TV projects after the controversial completion of “Game of Thrones” in May 2019. The story revolves around humanity’s first contact with an alien race .

In August 2019, Benioff and Weiss signed a $ 200 million production agreement with Netflix to make content exclusively for the streaming service.
