Jodie Whittaker could leave the BBC’s iconic science fiction series “Doctor Who”, according to a report in the British tabloid Daily Mirror.
The Mirror reports that the actor’s departure is being kept secret, but it is an open secret on set. Whittaker is the 13th actor and the first woman to play the beloved British character.
“We will not comment on any speculation about Jodie’s future on the show,” said a BBC spokesman. Variety.
Variety also contacted Whittaker representatives for comment, but has not yet received a response.
A match for Whittaker after three seasons would not be so unusual: this has been the practice of most of the actors who play the Doctor in the recent seasons of the series.
The Mirror report also states that Whittaker co-stars Bradley Walsh and Tosin Cole are ready to leave the show, but showrunner Chris Chibnall will remain.
The BBC announced on January 1 that actor and comedian John Bishop joined the cast of “Doctor Who”, playing a character named Dan.
The 13th season of “Doctor Who” started shooting in November 2020. Bishop has already started shooting and will make his first appearance when the series starts on BBC One later this year.
