Impeachment manager Stacey Plaskett suggests Trump defense videos focused on ‘people of color’

Stacey Plaskett, one of the House’s impeachment managers, called on former President Trump’s defense team for focusing on “Black women like me” in their video montages during the impeachment trial.

Plaskett, a U.S. Virgin Islands delegate, stopped responding to a legal question from senators to bring up videos of the Trump team of Democrats engaged in heated rhetoric in the past.

They were “playing clip after clip of black women talking about fighting for a cause, a problem or a policy,” Plaskett told the Senate on Friday. “It didn’t go unnoticed that so many of them were people of color, and women, black women – black women like me who are tired and tired of being sick and tired for our children.”

The Trump team videos that were repeated during the presentation featured Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., Prominently, as well as Vice President Kamala Harris and Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., In an attempt to emphasize that Democrats have a history of incendiary comments that should be considered unaffordable under the new standard they are trying to apply to Trump.

Plaskett referred to the Black Lives Matter protests that took place last summer in response to George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis and hinted that blacks speaking for justice are not equivalent to Trump’s effort to incite a Capitol insurrection.

“This summer, violent things have happened,” said Plaskett. “But there were also things that gave some of us black women great comfort – to see the Amish people of Pennsylvania rising with us. Members of Congress [standing] with us.

“I thought we were through. I think maybe not.”

WHO ARE THE IMPEACHMENT MANAGERS OF THE DEMOCRATIC TRUMP?

Democratic impeachment managers argued that Trump’s impeachment is not just for a speech he made on January 6, but for spending months casting doubt on the election and then calling his supporters to Washington to attack the Capitol and prevent counting the votes of the Electoral College for President Biden.
