The Washington Post reported that Washington DC Attorney General Karl Racine (D) said in court proceedings that the inauguration committee paid an almost $ 50,000 bill incurred by Donald Trump Jr.’s assistant, an employee of the Trump Organization , for booking multiple rooms at the president’s DC hotel during the 2017 opening.
That bill should have been paid for by the president’s for-profit company, Racine wrote, not by the donor-funded inauguration committee, which handles the funding and logistics for the various weekend events and gala parties held by the president .
“The Trump Organization was responsible for the invoiced charges,” wrote Racine’s office, according to the Post. “O [Inaugural Committee’s] payment of the invoice was unfair, unreasonable and unjustified, and ultimately conferred an improper private benefit on the Trump Organization.
“O [inaugural committee] knew, and continues to know, that the amounts paid under the Loews Madison bill for legal obligations incurred by the Trump Organization were for charges of [inaugural committee] had not approved or authorized, and for private prohibited purposes ”, continues the Racine process.
The Trump Organization did not immediately return a request for comment from The Hill.
Racine’s office initially sued Trump’s inaugural committee early last year, accusing him at the time of spending about $ 1 million of his funds on renting a ballroom on a Trump Organization property for the inauguration that it was hardly used.
The committee, Racine wrote at the time, “violated district law when it wasted approximately $ 1 million of charity funds on undue payments for the use of event space at the Trump hotel.”
