Dbrand announces custom PS5 faceplates and challenges Sony to sue

Device customization company Dbrand has announced that it will soon launch custom PlayStation 5 faceplates and has challenged Sony to threaten it with legal action.

Prior to the launch of the PS5, a company based in the United Kingdom decided to market custom faceplates for the console, only to end up receiving a legal threat from Sony. As a result, the front panel manufacturer had to stop operations before returning to the scene through a crowdfunding effort.

When asked by a Reddit user whether he was concerned about Sony’s response, Dbrand simply said, “We encourage you to try.”

Dbrand’s official announcement, which includes a chance to Cyberpunk 2077, is a fun read, so let’s leave it here for our readers:

As the title of this post suggests, we are now the global leader in PS5 Faceplates.

Proceed us, Sony.

This project has been going on since shortly before we told you not to buy skins for PlayStation 5. Spoiler alert: that’s why we told you not to buy skins for PlayStation 5.

After moving a few more chess pieces by four dimensions, we added a new production line to our plastic injection molding unit and started to work. The skills we have refined over the last few years in developing the Grip Case have uniquely positioned our organization to create OEM-level Faceplates: those with all the precision, attention to detail and unnecessarily elaborate packaging you expect from dbrand.

We will be entering mass production on PS5 Faceplates at the end of the year. However, we will not accept orders until we have stock in our Toronto HQ, ready for shipping. If CD Projekt RED taught us anything, it is that selling products before they are completed is a bad idea.

If you are among the millions of humans who didn’t win a PS5 at Christmas, stay calm when you see that it’s out of stock. We anticipate that demand will exceed supply at launch, but rest assured that Faceplates will be a permanent fixture in our portfolio.

On the other hand, if you are among the millions of money changers who hope to differentiate your overpriced PS5 with a personalized faceplate, we recommend that you sign up to receive the launch notification here.

That’s it from us. Congratulations on surviving 2020. We will try harder in 2021.
