Canadian peripheral company Dbrand has announced that it will soon receive orders for its own black PlayStation 5 line “href =” https://www.videogameschronicle.com/platforms/playstation/ps5/ “> PlayStation 5 faceplates and discarded suggestion Sony Interactive Entertainment “href =” https://www.videogameschronicle.com/companies/sony/ “> Sony could stop it.
The company, which is known primarily for its phone cases, is allowing customers to sign up for notifications when their matte black PS5 panels will be available. He says the cards will be launched in 2021 and will come in Standard and Digital variants.
“We will be entering mass production on the PS5 Faceplates at the end of the year,” wrote the company last week. “However, we will not accept orders until we have stock in our Toronto HQ, ready to ship.”
The launch of Dbrand’s product follows a high profile case in the UK, which saw a company cancel its plans to create custom PS5 mirrors after Sony allegedly threatened legal action.
CustomizeMyPlates.com was forced to change its original name from PlateStation5 and eventually pull out its entire line of custom PS5 faceplates.
Asked by a Reddit user whether he feared similar legal action on his face, Dbrand rejected the idea, writing: “We encourage you to try.” A caption in your post on Reddit also says: “sue us, Sony”.

Dbrand said it could later expand its range to offer other colors on the PlayStation front panel “href =” https://www.videogameschronicle.com/platforms/playstation/ “> PlayStation 5, but for now, it’s focusing in matte black with a selected matrix of medium skins.
Another peripheral company, Game Armor, launched pre-orders for its own PS5 faceplates last month, which are available in matte black, red and blue with a starting price of $ 35.
Content creator CptnAlex, who launched Game Armor in December, explained why he doesn’t expect his company to be on the wrong side of Sony.
He wrote: “Because our name is not deceptively close to a trademark, because our product does not include trademark logos and because our armor is designed differently enough to not infringe on design patents, we can sell safely. “
As revealed in an official PlayStation 5 disassembly video, the PS5’s standard white shell comes off, theoretically allowing unofficial replicas to be easily inserted in its place.
Sony has yet to announce any variation on the standard white design of the PlayStation 5 or has even pledged to release additional console shells in the future.
