Buffalo Bills beat the New England Patriots to sweep Bill Belichick’s team for the first time since 1999

No more. Thanks to franchise superstars Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs, the Bills gave the Patriots a taste of their own medicine on Monday.

A week after finally dethrone the Patriots from the top of the AFC East division, the Bills defeated the Patriots 38-9 with Allen throwing four touchdown passes – three of them to Diggs – to help Buffalo become the first AFC East team in two decades sweeping New England.

The victory at Gillette Stadium means that Bills have a 12-3 record entering the final week of the regular season and keeping them in second place in the AFC.

“We have a game left. And all of that, it’s cool, the records, this and that,” said Allen later.

“But the plan is to reach 13-3 and give us a chance in the playoffs. It doesn’t mean much if we can’t finish.”

In the win, Allen and Diggs set franchise records in a single season of touchdown passes and receiving yards, respectively.

Allen now has 34 touchdown passes, surpassing the Jim Kelly franchise record in one season. Hall of Fame member Kelly congratulated the 24-year-old for his achievement.

Diggs teases defenders of the New England Patriots as he runs into the end zone for a touchdown.
“CONGRATULATIONS, Josh !!! Keep breaking records and winning games! Keep doing what you want! I’m proud of you! Come on Buffalo !!” he said on twitter.
Diggs had nine receptions for 145 yards and three touchdowns, configuration a record for a single season of Bills to receive yards.

Since joining the Patriots, head coach Bill Belichick has been very successful, winning six Super Bowls.

However, after the legendary quarterback Tom Brady left for Tampa Bay in the summer, the Patriots found it difficult to sled.

With 2015 MVP Cam Newton at the helm, they have a 6-9 record and the loss to Bills ensured that they have their first losing season since 2000.

After just shooting for 34 yards and running for a touchdown, Newton was pulled into the third quarter for Jarrett Stidham reserve, although he was not much better off, completing 4 of 11 passes for 44 yards.

With such a poor performance from both defenders, Belichick declined to say who would be the Patriots’ starter in Week 17.

“The game ended about 10, 15 minutes ago,” said Belichick. “We worked on this game, we played the game. We didn’t make any plans for the next week, obviously. The game has 15 minutes.”
