Britney Spears’ legal team wants temporary conservative to work with father Jamie Spears

Britney Spears’ lawyer plans to file a petition to request the court’s consideration to transfer Jodi Montgomery from the person’s temporary conservative to conservative.

At a brief hearing on Wednesday, Samuel D. Ingham III told the court that he intended to file a petition to bring Jodi Montgomery as a permanent conservative in his client’s case. Montgomery was temporarily in charge of Britney Spears’ estate after his father, Jamie Spears, took a break for personal health reasons.

Jamie Spears has been his daughter’s conservative since 2008 and was briefly her only conservative in 2019, following the resignation of her former co-conservative, Andrew Wallet. Later that year, Jamie Spears took a break from controlling his property due to his health and Montgomery intervened as a temporary conservative of the person.

Ingham then argued last year that Britney Spears preferred Montgomery to remain the person’s temporary conservative and asked the court to remove Jamie Spears from the position of conservative. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny denied Jamie Spears’ removal request in November, but named the financial institution Bessemer Trust as co-conservative of the property.

Ingham’s pending petition does not appear to be intended to remove Jamie Spears, but to request that Montgomery receive a conservative, based on the short statement he made in court on Wednesday. Ingham declined to comment on NBC News on Wednesday.

Penny will review the petition and other filings at a hearing on April 27.

A lawyer for Jamie Spears did not comment on the matter on Wednesday.

Britney Spears is under legal guardianship after her public collapse in 2007. A #FreeBritney movement gained popularity in 2019 when fans of the singer claimed that Jamie Spears abused the guardianship to maintain control over her daughter.

Jamie Spears and his lawyers have repeatedly denied the accusations over the years, saying that he saved his daughter from exploitative influences and freed her equity from debt over the years.

The family’s legal battle was explored in the New York Times “Framing Britney Spears”, a series of documentaries that followed Britney Spears’ rise to stardom and the resulting pressure from the media. The release of the documentary renewed criticism of the guardianship, receiving requests for its end from celebrities like Bette Midler and Sarah Jessica Parker.

Britney Spears has not spoken publicly about guardianship since the release of the documentary. His lawyer briefly mentioned last month in court that “it was no secret” that Britney Spears did not want her father to be her conservative.

The singer’s most direct address on the situation came in 2019, before her request to remove her father, telling fans on Instagram that “rumors” and “death threats” against her family were getting out of hand. Britney Spears asked fans not to believe everything they hear and asked for privacy for her family.

“My situation is unique, but I promise that I am doing what is best at the moment,” she said. “You may not know this about me, but I am strong and I fight for what I want!”
