A queen always looks after her hive. On Saturday, Beyoncé paid tribute to a young fan who died of cancer by throwing a moving medley of songs into her memory.
On Friday, Lyric “Yhung” Chanel died at age 13 after a two-year battle with brain cancer and anaplastic ependymoma, according to ABC 13.
Lyric’s family chronicled her life on Instagram, where she cultivated a large number of followers online and attracted the attention of celebrities like Cardi B and Beyoncé, who have corresponded with her in recent years.
In the video tribute entitled “Rest In Peace Lyric Chanel”, the singer from “Black is King” presents an emotional medley cappella from “Brown Skin Girl”, “Halo” and “Love on Top” alongside Instagram photos from young.
For the last song, Beyoncé paid tribute to Lyric by replacing “baby” with her name on the chorus.
“Lyric, it’s you / You are the one I love / And you are the one I need,” she sings. “You’re the only thing I see / Come on, Lyric, it’s you / You’re the one who gives it all / You’re the one I can always call / When I need you, everything stops / Finally, you put my love on top . “
The singer concludes the tribute with a sincere message to Lyric: “I love you with all my heart.”
Since then, Lyric’s family has expressed their gratitude in an Instagram message, writing: “Thanks @beyonce. I am very grateful that Lyric was able to hear you sing for her before she left this world. “
In September, Beyoncé sent Lyric flowers and a note after the girl shared clips of herself singing “Love on Top” when she was a preschool child.
“Honey, honey, I can see the stars here, I can feel the sun whenever you’re around,” Beyoncé started the note, quoting the lyrics. “I was just as thrilled to see how those lyrics inspired you, not as much as you inspired me. I can’t wait to meet you one day and I’m so glad you’re home safely. You are a survivor. God bless you, B. ”
At the time, Lyric shared an Instagram post documenting her shock at receiving the sweet gift, saying: “Thank you so much for these flowers. I love you and I can’t wait to meet you. “
Just a month later, Lyric received another special delivery from Beyoncé: treats from singer Ivy Park’s clothing line.
Beside a video of her family unpacking the package on Instagram, Lyric wrote: “I just got back from taking the chemo and look at the surprise I was waiting for. I love you so much ### you are my Yoncé. “
