Congressman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) attacked Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) on Thursday after the Republican legislator said he was “in no way responsible” for the conspiracy theory attack on the building the Capitol on Wednesday, despite requests for fundraising to “fight” for the certification of Joe Biden’s victory. Cruz, who along with Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) led the attack by challenging Biden’s victory at the Electoral College, tried to distance himself from Wednesday’s coup attempt. After calling for his resignation on Thursday, Cruz said he was not responsible for the violence and had just “led a debate in the Senate to ensure electoral integrity”. After labeling Cruz as “unsuitable” for the job, Ocasio-Cortez responded strongly when he called her a “liar” for blaming him for the violent unrest that left several people dead. “Oh – are you accusing me of lying? No, and you? Your campaign sent this fundraising message while people were surrounding the Capitol. You claimed to be ‘leading the fight to reject voters,’ ”she wrote, alongside a screenshot of the fundraising message that was released while the Capitol siege was underway. “Your total refusal to acknowledge any damage, irregularity or even error of judgment above; And your lack of self-reflection about how these acts contributed to yesterday’s chaos is alarming, ”wrote Ocasio-Cortez.
