Amy Schumer stars as a winged “Godmayo Fairy” in Hellmann’s Super Bowl ad that fights food waste

She stars in the cooking series Amy Schumer Learns to Cook with her husband, chef Chris Fischer.

And Amy Schumer showed her newfound passion for cooking in a Super Bowl ad for Hellmann’s mayonnaise on Sunday.

The 39-year-old stand-up comedian plugged the iconic condiment while suggesting ideas for reinvigorating leftovers with it.

Amy was actually doing a double job, as two different versions of the commercial aired: one east of the Rocky Mountains for Hellmann’s mayonnaise and one west of the Rocky Mountains for Best Foods mayonnaise.

The two brands are identical, but have different names in different regions, so Trainwreck’s star had to film parts of the ad twice to say the different names and change his navy blue jacket, which showed the names of the mayonnaise on his chest.

She combined the blue suit with a yellow satin blouse and some golden CGI wings added for extra sparkle.

The video started with a man rummaging through his fridge and finding a variety of unappetizing leftovers.

‘I am your Fairy Godmayo,’ she explains to the shocked man. ‘And this is a hot mess!’

He has a few pieces of meat left over, as well as half an onion and an artichoke.

– What is an artichoke again? he asks.

“Nobody knows,” she says dismissively, as she pushes him aside to grab a jar of Hellmann’s / Best Foods mayonnaise from the refrigerator door.

With a flick of his butter knife, the island is covered with an enviable paste that includes chocolate cake, spinach and artichoke sauce, nachos, hard-boiled eggs and sandwiches, presumably representing things that can be made with mayonnaise.

‘Ah, yes, this is normal’, jokes the man.

After their magical display, the two take a break to eat all the food.

Amy ends the ad with a humorous stinger after the man asks what else she can do.

“Nothing at all,” she says in an expressionless expression. ‘Like nothing.’

The clip ended with a slogan on the screen: ‘Make it taste. Do not waste.’

In a press release issued by Hellmann’s last month, the brand said the mayonnaise ad was intended to inspire people to waste less food, while presumably encouraging them to buy their product.

“It was surprising to know how much food is thrown away in our homes, especially when you consider how many people are struggling to put food on their tables,” said Amy.

“I am proud to partner with Hellmann’s to bring awareness to this problem and help provide people with tangible ways to make easy changes at home. Simple steps, such as accepting imperfect foods and organizing your fridge or pantry, can help reduce waste and inspire creativity in the kitchen. ‘

The single location advertisement was directed by Peter Farrelly, best known for directing comedies like Dumb And Dumber and There Something About Mary with his brother Bobby Farrelly and for directing the Oscar-winning film Green Book alone.
