Alabama Shakes drummer Steven William Johnson was arrested earlier this week on several child abuse charges in Limestone County, Alabama, according to the Huntsville WHNT. A grand jury indicted him on charges of “willful torture, willful abuse and cruel beating or willful mistreatment of a child under the age of 18”. His indictment is scheduled for April 7, 2021.
Last March, Johnson pleaded guilty to a 2019 violation of a domestic violence protection order in March last year, according to the WHNT. He is a founding member of Alabama Shakes and played in both 2012 games Boys and girls and 2015 Sound and Color. The group went on a hiatus in 2018 when vocalist Brittany Howard turned her focus to her solo work. Pitchfork contacted Alabama Shakes representatives for comment.
