In an interview with IGN IndiaCorky Lehmkuhl, Studio Creative Director at Treyarch, said that while “so much development time is spent”, less than 2% of players were discovering and unraveling the secrets the studio had hidden in its various levels of zombies. So Treyarch decided that in Cold War The second season would make Easter eggs more “accessible” to allow more players to experience the whole new zombie mode.
Since the first versions of the popular zombie game mode started to appear on the Call to action franchise, the modes have become famous for their hard-to-find, strange and complicated secrets. As the series progressed, these Easter eggs became one of the main ways Call to action developers like Treyarch took the narrative forward, while building on the tradition of the universe. This led to a situation where most players were not able to experience these new narrative beats because they could not find the Easter eggs or were not skilled enough to remove them.
The change does not mean any secrets; Lehmkuhl said: “There are some parallel Easter Eggs that are still somewhat obscure and you will have to find them, but for the main mission, we just wanted more players to try them out.”
