Young pilot traces a 170-mile syringe in the sky to mark the launch of the vaccine

A young German pilot said on Sunday that he traced a giant syringe in the sky as a way to mark the start of vaccines against coronavirus. Samy Kramer, a 20-year-old amateur pilot, carefully planned the route he needed to take to create an effect in the skies of Baden-Wuerttemberg.

The maneuvers included a series of 90-degree turns during Wednesday’s flight that lasted an hour and 40 minutes and covered about 170 miles.

The syringe can be seen on the website flightradar24.

“I wanted to give people something to think about the day the vaccine was made available,” Kramer, a student, told AFP on Sunday.

Germany launched its official COVID-19 vaccination campaign on Sunday, but the first jabs were given the day before, with a 101-year-old resident of a nursing home becoming the first person in the country to be vaccinated.

In total, Germany will receive 1.3 million doses by the end of this year and 11-13 million doses by the end of March.

About 65% of Germans said they were prepared to be vaccinated, according to a survey by YouGov for the German news agency DPA.
