Woody Allen criticizes documentaries’ Allen v. Farrow ‘as’ hatchet work’

Woody Allen criticized on Sunday the new series of HBO documentaries about the sexual abuse charges against him as a “hatchet job” that was “riddled with lies”.

The decades-old accusations that Allen molested Dylan Farrow when she was a child are “categorically false,” the 85-year-old director and his wife, Soon-Yi Previn, 50, said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.

“Several agencies investigated them at the time and found that, regardless of what Dylan Farrow may have been led to believe, absolutely no abuse happened,” the statement said.

The couple broke the silence about “Allen v. Farrow ”right after the first of the four episodes of the docuseries.

The series portrays the Oscar winner, investigating the claim by Mia Farrow’s daughter, Dylan, that he sexually assaulted her in the family’s attic in 1992, when she was seven. Allen was Mia’s partner during Dylan’s childhood.

The Oscar-winning director and his wife accused filmmakers Amy Ziering and Kirby Dick of “having no interest in the truth” and “collaborating with the Farrows and their facilitators”.

The couple said they had only been approached by documentary filmmakers two months ago “and had only a few days to ‘respond'”.

“Of course, they refused to do so,” the statement said.

The duo also hinted that HBO may have been biased due to its business relationship with Allen’s estranged son, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Ronan Farrow, who signed a contract to produce several films with the network in 2018.

“It is not surprising that the network that will broadcast this is HBO – which has a production and commercial relationship agreement with Ronan Farrow,” the statement said.

“While this poor quality hit piece can get attention, it doesn’t change the facts.”
