A woman in China was disappointed when she opened a package and found that her new iPhone 12 Pro Max had been replaced with an apple-flavored yogurt drink.
In a video sent to Weibo on Friday, the woman, named Liu, explained that she spent more than $ 1,500 to buy a new iPhone on Apple’s official website. Later, when she opened the package, someone exchanged the contents for food.
Liu did not receive the package directly from his courier, but from a package locker in his residential community.
Local police considered the exchange a case of theft, although no one is sure where along the line the exchange took place. Both Apple and Express Mail Service – the company that delivered Liu’s package – are currently initiating an investigation.
An EMS customer service official said Global Times on Friday that the incident is still under investigation. “We nominate colleagues to deal with this especially,” she said. According Global Times, Apple gave a similar response, saying the investigation is still ongoing.
Weibo users gave their opinion on who may have committed the theft, with accusations directed at the courier company, at Apple’s warehouse employees, or even suggesting that Liu may have purchased from a copycat website that mimics Apple.
Apple products, and especially high-value iPhones, tend to be the target of this type of theft, but generally not by individuals. Recently, five men were caught for security footage stealing $ 12,000 worth of Apple products, which appeared to be display items, from a Best Buy store in Dover, Delaware, in early December.
