With the cube connected, I learned how to solve a Rubik’s cube

Although the answers are already available, a new Rubik’s cube connected via Bluetooth (and complementary app) reveals the terminology and simplifies everything in a guided tutorial. Unfortunately, the Connected Cube will not let me enter the world ranking, but now I can, more and more reliably, solve a Rubix cube from scratch – without any help.

The connected Rubik’s cube costs $ 59, which makes it noticeably more expensive than typical Rubik’s cubes, which generally cost less than $ 20. You are paying this premium for a rigid way to learn how to set up your scrambled cube and a practical step-by-step method that will solve it, except human error.

Rubik's cube and connected app

The only visible difference from a cube that you didn’t solve in childhood is a recess in the shape of a cross on the yellow face. This is where you reload the puzzle so it can connect via Bluetooth. A single charge will last a good week of trying to solve the cube. Otherwise, it looks, feels and moves like any other Rubik’s cube. The magic is in the companion app. This is a teacher with infinite patience who can track all his twists and, well, mess up.

The Rubik’s Connected app is mainly focused on competitive functions and speed resolution timers aimed at experienced cubers, with the learning section for the rest of us, relegated to the final guide. GoCube, the company behind Rubik’s Connected, has made connected cubes in the past – this is one with a few (arguably important) Rubik brands. It also creates a more advanced model that lights up as you go. It also costs $ 20 more.

The solution guide includes a detailed course covering the terminology and movements used to arrive at your first solution. It is a seven-step process (there are faster and more complicated ways to solve it) and you will find some steps more complicated than others. At least, I did.
