Winter storm warnings issued for the Midwest, Northeast; Florida can see tornadoes

Winter storm warnings have been issued across the Midwest as the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast prepare for floods and possible power outages on Christmas Eve.

A holiday blizzard hit Minnesota on Wednesday, delaying and canceling flights and closing roads.

On Thursday, cold wind temperatures dropped between -20 and -35 degrees in central Minnesota and the State Patrol reported to The Star Tribune that snow plows were unable to operate due to the conditions of zero visibility.

In the south, strong winds caused continuous blackouts, although the storm did not stop last-minute shoppers from rushing to stores to buy gifts or liquor.

Snow is possible in the south to the Tennessee Valley, and storms and tornadoes are possible in Florida. The Sunshine State is expected to have some of the lowest vacation temperatures in more than two decades.

The system must be cleaned on Friday morning.
