With the South Carolina football program almost a month ago, the former Gamecocks linebacker and current defensive analyst Shaq Wilson has been around players every day. What he sees in the red shirt freshman guard Tyshawn Wannamaker is a resemblance to former offensive striker Gamecocks Terrance Campbell, who played with Wilson during the Spurrier era.
In a team training in the practice fields with the technical team and support team present, Wannamaker was praised by Wilson on Twitter for his work ethic, which reminds him of Campbell’s.

A product of Calhoun County High School in Saint Matthews, the same school that produced Alshon Jeffery, Wannamaker is listed at 6-3 and 335 pounds entering its second year on campus. He appeared in a game last season, serving as a guard in the fourth quarter, in a burst victory over Vanderbilt. If the Gamecocks had played in the Gasparilla Bowl against UAB in December, Wannamaker would be in contention to play against some senior left guard. Sadarius Hutcherson chose to leave after the last game of the regular season against Kentucky. Wannamaker will enter the spring field of 2021 competing for more reps in an offensive line that presents the greatest experience of any position group in the offensive squad.
In the spring of 2018, Wannamaker was one of the first players to enter the 2020 recruiting class. When the 2020 recruiting cycle was finalized by 247Sports Composite, Wannamaker was considered the country’s No. 21 offensive guard.
Campbell, who came to Carolina from Austell, Georgia. (South Cobb) started 25 career games over his six years on the South Carolina list from 2006 to 2011. He started all games on the right guard in the 2011 season. Campbell signed up as a defensive striker and injured his knee during autumn training before the 2006 season. In 2007, he started on the defensive line, but moved on to the offensive side of football. He played just one game, against the state of South Carolina, his redshirt in the freshman year, as he was still behind the ACL injury.

Campbell started nine games during his second season on the right guard and quickly became a mainstay in the position. The injured insect reappeared in 2009, when it suffered a sting in the neck / shoulder from which it was unable to recover. He received his second red medical jersey and returned as a fifth-year veteran in 2010. He played in 10 of 14 games, but made only two games. He was the reserve guard behind Rokevious Watkins and Garrett Chisolm. He started the Chick-fil-A Bowl in place of Chisolm, who suffered a knee injury. Campbell is now a police office in San Jose, California.
