After a long speech by “The View” co-host Meghan McCain on Tuesday, Whoopi Goldberg stopped for three whole seconds to process and then got a simple but measured response: “OK”.
The sentiment resonated with viewers at home, and a clip of the moment quickly garnered over 1.6 million views by putting Whoopi’s name on Twitter’s list of trending topics.
McCain’s comments were made during a discussion of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s interview on Sunday night with Oprah Winfrey, and British TV personality Piers Morgan, who attacked “Good Morning Britain” on Tuesday after being called to question Markle’s revelations about her mental health difficulties.
McCain took the conversation in a new direction. She made a speech about the American Revolution and how she loves to visit Virginia’s Mount Vernon as “the home of our Founding Fathers”, explaining that she does not want to defend the monarchy because she is “a 100% American blood who celebrates freedom of any way I can. ”She then discussed a generational divide in the UK between how young and old see the monarchy and went on to encourage” all Americans to visit Mount Vernon and see why monarchies are stupid “.
“The American experiment is the way to go, and if we have two American women – Meghan Markle and Oprah Winfrey – who are alone finishing what George Washington and our revolutionary colleagues have done, I am totally in favor,” he concluded.
Goldberg gave an “OK” before cutting out for a commercial, saying, “I think we’ll talk more about it when we get back.”
While the show’s panel is known for fighting, particularly tense moments between Goldberg and McCain have always surfaced online in the past.
