The 49ers have just taken the biggest blow to the coaching staff, which they will take in this off-season, but that does not mean they have suffered the last one. Reports of Mike LaFleur dating Saleh surfaced almost at the same time as news of Saleh’s deal with the Jets, but could there be other names that made the leap as well? Kyle Posey and I discussed Saleh’s departure from every possible angle on today’s Niners Nation Podcast.
“I imagine we didn’t see the end,” Kyle said, “I just don’t feel like this is it. He has to fill a lot of assistants. Not just the positions of coordinator, he has to fill an entire team. So, to think that he will only take a team coach is a bit naive. And again, he’s probably been talking to Lynch and Kyle about it for more than months. “
It still surprises me that the 49ers lost more coaches after a 6-10 season than after going to the Super Bowl, but here we are.
In my mind, the biggest loss would be defensive line coach Kris Kocurek, who has transformed the 49ers’ D line since he arrived. It is no accident that they improved 11 bags in 2019 after he got the job. Also, see Hyder, Kerry’s performance this year. Again, in my opinion, due to Kocurek.
