Where to buy a PS5: everything we know about getting the new Sony console

Sony launched the PlayStation 5 in November and the console is now the fastest selling console in the history of the United States, but even the kind of hardcore gamers who waited in line at midnight for their PS3 or PS4 are still engaged in the struggle to get a new PS5. If you have first hand experience with low inventory and the frustrating battle of trying to put a console in an online shopping cart, this is probably not a shock.

As of March 21, no regular retail store had PlayStation 5 consoles in stock. Despite occasional drops in stock at several retailers, the PS5 remains sold out in both configurations: the $ 400 digital-only edition without optical drive and the most expensive $ 500 model with Blu-ray. If you are willing to pay much more than the price of the ticket, you can get a PS5 or PS5 package from a reseller like eBay or StockX. We advise you to wait, however. In a few more months, we expect things to change and inventory levels to rise, and then you may regret spending $ 1,000 or more to buy a PS5 a few months earlier. To get the latest updates on when retailers can have inventory and offer it for sale online, be sure to check here frequently.

You can monitor where the PS5 is available on its own; Twitter, for example, is a good source for rumors of refueling. But we occasionally receive news directly from retailers and informants about upcoming inventory stocks and update this post immediately. Again, be aware: it will probably be months before anything close to normal stock levels appears in stores, so getting your own PS5 is likely to be a challenge until summer, at the very least. Below you will find a list of all major retailers (and some high profile resellers) where you can monitor inventory and availability.

PS5 refueling options at major retailers

You can check the Amazon page for the $ 400 digital edition via the button below or, if you prefer, queue for the PS5 with Blu-ray for $ 500.

When in stock, Best Buy offers the PS5 with Blu-ray for $ 500 along with the digital edition of $ 400 (which you can find by clicking the button below). The retailer is also offering a range of accessories on its PS5 homepage.

When in stock, Target offers the PS5 with Blu-ray for $ 500, in addition to the PS5 Digital Edition, which you can find by clicking the button below.

You can check the availability of the $ 400 digital edition at Walmart by clicking the button below, or you can try to steal the most expensive PS5 with Blu-ray for $ 500.

We don’t recommend spending more than retail to get a PS5, but if you need a console now, eBay is your shortcut to getting a console. That said, expect to pay hundreds over the list; the average price of the PS5 on eBay is around $ 800.

If you’ve exhausted all the usual retail options and are willing to pay hundreds above the list price, you can take a look at StockX, an eBay alternative that made its name in the secondary market for designer sneakers and clothing. The last time we checked, PS5 prices were hovering just under $ 650. We don’t think it’s worth it, but let your conscience (and your wallet) be your guide.
