Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene denounced Capitol protesters on Tuesday and said they were attacking all legislators – Republicans and Democrats – when they invaded the Capitol during the joint Jan. 6 session to count the electoral votes.
“The attack RUINED our objection, which we spent weeks preparing for, which devastated our efforts on behalf of Trump and his constituents,” said Greene, R-Ga., In a tweet.
She continued: “They placed bombs on the RNC and DNC the night before. They were NOT aimed at just one party. They were targeting Republicans and Democrats. They were against the government ALL together.”
Greene also said she was “very upset, scared and terrified by ALL of us” during the riot and said she “made a video telling people to stop and protest peacefully”.

“I will be forever grateful to my Republican colleagues who bravely helped the police protect us and blocked the door,” continued Greene. “They boldly risked their lives against the attackers who were trying to get in.”
She added that the former president was “the victim of the endless hatred-fueled witch hunt”.
But some of the rioters’ actions indicate that they were not actually targeting lawmakers they considered allies, including Texas senator Ted Cruz. Video posted by New Yorker showed protesters rummaging through Cruz’s papers before concluding: “This is a good one. I think Cruz would like us to do that, so I think we’re fine.” They also said, “he is with us”.
Cruz, in many statements, however, condemned the troublemakers.
Greene also credited on Tuesday the false claims that the troublemakers on the Capitol were not Trump supporters – they were widely shown to be Trump’s right-wing supporters in almost all cases, as the police tracked the rioters.

The pro-Trump crowd stormed the Capitol about an hour after the conclusion of the Trump rally on January 6, during which he repeated false claims that he won the election and told his followers to go to the Capitol “peacefully and patriotically” . Those who believe that Trump’s rally that day constituted objectionable conduct, however, say that a comment does not go beyond the balance of his remarks, in which he also told followers that if they do not “strike back”, they will not “have” one more country. “
Trump’s legal team says the use of the word “fight” was figurative and meant political action on electoral security.
Greene has been a controversial lightning rod as he maintained his reputation as a bomb thrower, while distancing himself from some of his more radical earlier statements. She repudiated QAnon after flirting with the conspiracy theory; reaffirmed that 9/11 happened after previously expressing doubts about it; and apologized to his Republican colleagues in the House last week for those comments and others, including some apparently supporting violence against Democrats, before she was elected.

The Republican Party experienced a handful of internal skirmishes, which occurred last week. There was a plenary vote in the House removing Greene – one of the faces of the Republican Party’s pro-Trump wing – from his committee duties. Eleven Republicans joined all Democrats in this vote. Meanwhile, Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., Survived a 145-61 vote to remove her as chairman of the Republican Party conference after she voted to impeach Trump.
Similar divisions in the Senate will be observed closely during Trump’s impeachment trial, with a handful of Republicans considered potential votes to condemn the former president, while the vast majority of the Republican Party must side with Trump’s lawyers, who called the judgment of “political theater.”
