Buffalo Bills recently had connections to several free agent receptors. No bigger than veteran Kenny Stills.
The 28-year-old has experience and following injuries and COVID issues involving the accounts (12-3) and his current crop of receivers … his name certainly draws attention. Earlier this week, the Bills reportedly had a free agent visit to Stills.
On Thursday, Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott addressed the Stills’ news and made a point of putting things in two different areas when making an appearance with the team’s radio partner, WGR-550. First, McDermott said that the injury situation occurring with Buffalo’s wide receiver unit, especially Cole Beasley (knee), is a completely different thing.
“I can tell you … regarding Beasley’s situation, specifically, two separate conversations,” said McDermott.
Later in the conversation, McDermott curiously also dismissed Reggie Gilliam for the end of Sunday’s season. But he saw his Video conference moments later, he classified Beasley as “week by week”, which he did earlier in the week. It looks like the Beasley saga will continue, but it looks like he’s unlikely to play Buffalo’s season finale against the Miami Dolphins (10-5).
McDermott did not mention John Brown in his interview, but he is also out. Brown left the injured reserve, but is currently on the reserve / COVID list. Brown would be expected to return from that assignment before Sunday, however. It was not placed on him for a positive coronavirus test, on the contrary, it was a safety precaution due to contact tracking.
Specifically in relation to Stills, the coach did not say whether he would sign with the team or not. However, he acknowledged the Bills’ interest, adding that it has been around for some time through Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane.
“Brandon has been eyeing Stills for some time. Nothing is certain up to this point. We’ll see where it goes from here, ”said McDermott.
Stills, a choice of Santos from the fourth round in 2013, ended up reaching the Dolphins through exchange. He was then negotiated again for the Texans, who cut him in November after he was unable to find a role in the offense.
In 10 games in 2020, Stills had 11 receptions on 19 targets for 144 yards with a touchdown. In 117 career games, Stills has 310 receptions for 4,843 yards and 37 touchdowns. Stills also has experience playing slots, which brings connections to Beasley’s injury.
