Watch out for unofficial company messages; more than 280,000 customers affected by power outages

SANTO ANTÓNIO – CPS Energy addressed “fake messages” on social media after a series of power cuts that affected the San Antonio and Bexar County area.

According to the company, “unofficial messages from CPS Energy” are circulating on social networks.

“CAUTION: there are unofficial messages from CPS Energy circulating on social media,” the company said on Tuesday. “While we provide several daily updates, please be aware that it did NOT come from CPS Energy.”

The message described by the energy company talks about the state issuing an “electric charge alert”. Among other things, the post talks about the failure of the network and the inability to “support critical infrastructure”, such as hospitals.

CPS Energy President and CEO Paula Gold-Williams said on Tuesday that more freezing rain in Tuesday’s forecast will be a challenge in the company’s efforts to restore power to hundreds of thousands of San Antonio residents. .

Currently, more than 280,000 San Antonio residents are without power due to the cold temperatures that have affected power generation capacity.

All sources of energy – including wind, solar, coal, natural gas and nuclear – have been affected in some way by temperatures, Gold-Williams said.

Approximately two thirds of the CPS Energy networks continue to experience rotating interruptions. The other third of the network remains powered because these circuits supply essential services, such as a hospital, base or police department.

However, the “intensity of freezing temperatures has caused some damage” to the utility’s ability to supply power, Gold-Williams said. “While we see some improvement. We are not out of danger. “
