Watch Gordon Murray driving his highly anticipated T.50 for the first time – Robb Report

Having designed the iconic McLaren F1, Gordon Murray knows one or three things about high-performance cars. And although he may be a little biased, the legendary designer looked like a proud father after taking the wheel of his latest creation.

Gordon Murray Automotive has just released a video of Murray taking his first test drive on the next T.50 hypercar. Although he only took the prototype for a quick ride on an airport runway, the designer seemed more than satisfied with the results.

In the middle of the five-minute clip, a Murray wearing a mask can be seen with his seat belt fastened and ready to go behind the wheel of the T.50 Experimental Prototype 2 (XP2) with one of his engineers sitting in the back. As soon as the engine is started, the designer goes around the track and, although he never comes close to pushing the car to the limit – it only takes the engine at 3,000 rpm, not even close to its 12,100 rpm red line – you can really hear the noise of your engine.

It should come as no surprise that the car makes its presence known, even when it barely accelerates above idle. The 3.9-liter Cosworth V-12 naturally aspirated from the ultralight machine is a true powerhouse, capable of producing 654 horsepower and 344 ft lbs of torque. Despite this muscular strength, the car was designed with a focus on the driver’s experience, not performance specifications. According to Murray, it may well deliver on both.

“The XP2 prototype is currently running at considerably less revs than its 12,100 rpm limit, but the T.50 was fantastic in my first direction,” said Murray in a statement. Road and trail. “The car was responsive, responsive and rewarding to drive. It was a fantastic experience to be sitting in the center of the car once again with great visibility all the way around and I can see how much the owners will enjoy this experience. “

Soon, you’ll have a chance to take the wheel of Murray’s next-generation hypercar. The T.50 is expected to go into production early next year. Of course, if you plan to add the futuristic vehicle to your collection, get ready to shell out the cheddar cheese. The T.50 will have a starting price of US $ 3 million before taxes.
