Watch Dogs: Legion was released in 2020 without an online multiplayer mode, and the mode was finally released last week for most platforms. The game is available with cross-buy support between console generations, but does not support any type of cross-game. However, this will change in a future update.

The game’s official Twitter account confirmed this by responding to a fan request, saying the development team will add it in a later update. He did not give a date for when this update will take place and based on the delays we saw for Legion online mode – it was originally scheduled to come out months ago – Ubisoft Toronto is probably working to ensure it works smoothly before proceeding to add more features.

Previous Watch Dogs games also included multiplayer modes, and they didn’t try to offer exactly the same experience as the one-player part, but with more people. In the original game, for example, you could use a separate phone app to try to stop a player from running on the floor. It was a new idea, given the phone hacker interface for which the series is known.

The question remains for Legion, however, if launching the mode so late will be enough to involve players who may have ended months ago. Although the “play as anyone” mechanics gives almost infinite possibilities, the main storyline is significantly shorter than Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, released around the same time.

Watch Dogs: Legion is one of several Ubisoft games that support cross-buy, meaning you can buy the copy of PS4 and play it on PS5 or buy the copy of Xbox One and play it on Xbox Series X The same is not universally true for the reverse – PS5 branded physical games will only work on newer consoles, but the Xbox game supports Smart Delivery, so it will work on any of them and will automatically install the correct version.
