‘WandaVision’: Evan Peters arrives in Westview as Wanda’s lost brother

Don’t you hate it when a long-missing family member comes out of nowhere to throw himself on the couch and totally interrupt the flow of everyday life? Playing out of this classic sitcom troupe, and a crisp situation for comedy, at the end of Marvel Studios’ Episode 5 WandaVision, “In a very special episode…”, the doorbell rings and Wanda Maximoff is shocked to see who is there. It could be? It is? No way…

Standing on the other side, in all the glory of the Hawaiian shirt and leather jacket, is Pietro Maximoff … played by Evan Peters. As Dr. Darcy Lewis notes from the SWORD base outside Westview, this is not who we think it is – “Did she reformulate Pietro?” she says, astonished. Apparently, yes, that’s exactly what Wanda did. She reworked Pietro for the last episode of ‘WandaVision’, again playing in a familiar pattern of sitcoms from the past, simply replacing a character without much fuss.

Trying to understand what’s going on, just like the popsicle-, excuse me, Eyesight? You are not alone, as lead editor Jac Schaeffer still cannot believe this is really happening.

“We love the idea of [bringing him back]”, Schaeffer told Marvel.com. “And then we thought, how in the world are we going to make this make logical sense? Like, how can we justify that? Because that’s the thing, you can hatch a million great ideas, but to make them land, make them based, make them look organic to the bigger story. “

The idea of doing this came early, from Schaeffer and executive producer Mary Livanos, who were determined to do this job. “This show is a mental mess, and because it’s working on so many levels, and there are so many notions of what’s real and what’s not, and performance, cast, audience, fandom and all that, we just thought it would be the biggest thrill to bring Evan for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “

This whole idea was easier said than done, as Schaeffer continued: “We thought how, how are we going to give him that entrance and then enjoy it and then make him crazy? And we had the idea for a long time of the brother’s trope, or the relative, or whoever comes to the city and, like, shake things up with the family – that trope of the sitcom. “

From the beginning, Peters was ready for this. “We’ve been rooting for it for so long and we didn’t know if it would be possible,” explained Schaeffer. “It was complicated to make it happen. Evan was always ready for this – like, always, always, always. He is a fan of comics and Marvel. He’s always ready for the strangest option. And it’s a pleasure – really a pleasure to work with him. “

“Everyone was very excited. I think kevin [Feige, Marvel Studios president] I wanted to make sure there was a reason for that, which made sense. And I hope we did that ”.

But what will happen next? We’re all going to have to tune in and find out.
