Waiting list for expansion of NRG Park coronavirus vaccine clinic

HOUSTON – The waiting list for the NRG Park coronavirus vaccine clinic is being expanded.

Stephen Williams, director of the Houston Department of Health, said on Monday that the waiting list is being expanded for everyone who qualifies to receive the vaccine in phases 1A and 1B.

Phase 1A of the state criteria focuses on frontline health professionals and residents of long-term care facilities. Phase 1B focuses on people aged 65 and over and people aged 16 and over with medical conditions that put them at a higher risk of serious illness due to COVID-19.

Williams said the large number of vaccines that can be administered at the NRG Park site has required an increase in the number of people who qualify for the waiting list.

Go to houstonemergency.org/covid-19-vaccines or call 832-393-4301 to join the waiting list. People with disabilities can call the Aging and Disability Resource Center at 832-393-5500. Anyone else who needs assistance with registration can contact the COVID-19 call center at 832-393-4220.

The expansion also applies to people in Harris County. Visit vacstrac.hctx.net or call 832-927-8787 to join the Harris County waiting list version.

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said 6,000 doses of the Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine, recently approved, should arrive in Houston this week. This adds up to the 9 thousand doses of the Modern vaccine that were already going to the city.

Harris County public health officials said they expect to receive about 12,000 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine this week.

A year after the pandemic began, Turner said there was “light at the end of the pandemic tunnel”, but people should continue to wear masks and keep their distance from others.
