Vybe Together was banned by Apple and TikTok because it helped organize parties during Covid

The app used its Instagram account, which remains online, to explain why it disappeared from iPhones and iPads.
“The App Store took us down !!! We will be back !!”, said the Instagram post.

The Instagram account suggests using the app to “Find your vybe. Local wine nights, beer pong games and dancing in an apartment near you.” The app’s slogan is “Make your rebel come in. Make your party”.

Nor Vybe Together, Apple (AAPL) nor did TikTok respond immediately to requests for comment. The action against the app was first reported by The Verge.

Vybe Together had a FAQ page removed that suggested it supported small, not large, meetings, The Verge reported.

“We are aware that Covid is a major health problem for the country, our communities, our friends and family,” said the FAQ page. “If we could all be isolated, it could really disappear. Having parties on a large scale is very dangerous. That’s why we don’t support it. But Vybe is a commitment, without big parties, but small meetings. We could be living, at least a little bit during those times with Vybe. “

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advise against even smaller social gatherings that bring together people from different families due to the risk of spreading Covid-19.

“The more people an individual interacts in a meeting and the longer that interaction lasts, the greater the potential risk of becoming infected with the spread of Covid-19 and Covid-19,” said the CDC in its guidelines. Many local governments have also issued policies banning meetings.

Vybe Together was criticized on social media on Tuesday, before Apple and TikTok took action. Taylor Lorenz, technology and internet writer for the New York Times, was among the critics of the Vybe Together app.

“Some terrible people have created a complete app to find and promote large, insecure indoor parties for Covid and are using TikTok to market it to millions of people,” he tweeted. “They are currently in the midst of promoting NYE secret ragers in New York.”

Lorenz identified a co-founder of Vybe Together and added the person’s profile page on LinkedIn. That page was offline on Wednesday morning.
