Virginia Tech’s Mike Young apologizes for the comment by Jehovah’s Witnesses when talking about his opponent

Virginia Tech men’s basketball coach Mike Young apologized on Tuesday for comments he made during the NCAA men’s basketball tournament press conference on Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Young, who is in his second season as head coach of the Hokies, tried to say that they were taking the confrontation with the Florida Gators seriously, but ended up making a rude comment.

“We are not playing against the All-Star team of Jehovah’s Witnesses here. We are playing with the Gators, man, we are playing with the Gators,” said Young, via WSLS-TV. I know who our next opponent would be if we were lucky enough to win, but there’s no chance in hell that you’ll start thinking about anything, anything – I won’t cut out anything except [head coach Mike White’s] Team Gator, and this is the same for my team. “

“That’s it. This is a game and if you play badly or are defeated, I will leave the hall after talking to you via Zoom, and there will be an NCAA representative telling me, ‘Your plane leaves in 45 minutes. Good luck to you. . Go pack your things and get the hell out of here. ‘It may not be that hard, but let’s play well and have a good ball game. Let’s see what happens. “
