Vincent Jackson suffered from ‘chronic alcoholism’ before he died: sheriff

Details are beginning to emerge around the death of Vincent Jackson, the former NFL star who was found dead in a Florida hotel room on Monday.

Hillsborough County sheriff, Chad Chronister, appeared on the “MJ Morning Show” on the Tampa Q105 radio station on Wednesday and discussed some of the key findings from the autopsy report. One was that Jackson was suffering from “chronic alcoholism”.

“Simply tragic,” said Chronister. “We didn’t get the toxicology report back, so we can’t say for sure if it was that, but many long-standing health problems that contributed to his death from alcohol abuse.”

The sheriff said the autopsy report would be released on Wednesday to the 38-year-old, and although he admitted it was “speculation”, he said he was informed that the former Tampa Bay Buccaneer was staying at the hotel in Brandon, Florida, because he was suffering from CTE – brain deterioration caused by repeated head trauma.

“[The family believes] With all my heart, that all of these actions are the result of what he suffered while playing in the NFL, ”said Chronister.
