Valerie Bertinelli shared a sweet birthday message about what would have been her late husband Eddie Van Halen’s 66th birthday.
The TV star was married to the Van Halen rocker from 1981 until her divorce in 2007. However, they remained close and kept in good condition, which she showed on Tuesday when she tweeted a picture of the message she sent to the late rocker on his birthday a year ago.
“Happy Birthday Ed! XOXO” she wrote along with three heart emojis.
In a rare glimpse into the couple’s personal life after the breakup, the image also included Eddie’s sincere response.

“Thanks Val !! I love you !! What a pity not to have football today !!” He wrote. “Anyway, I hope to see you again soon, love-Ed.”
Not to be outdone, Van Halen completed his answer with six heart emojis.
In addition to Bertinelli, the couple’s son Wolfgang also accessed Twitter to share old home movies in honor of his late father’s birthday.
“Happy 66th birthday, pop,” Wolf put the caption of the tweet. “I wish I could give you the biggest hug and celebrate with you. I love you and I miss you so much it hurts. I don’t even know how to put it into words.”
“I have been doing my best to stay strong, but it is very difficult to be here without you,” Wolf, 29, continued.

Wolf then went on with a second tweet who said: “Not a second has passed without you thinking, and today will be no different.”

His mother commented on the videos with broken heart emojis.
The family has struggled to cope with the loss of Eddie. Wolf previously told Howard Stern in November that he felt “terrible” when trying to overcome his father’s death. Bertinelli, however, appeared on the “Today” program earlier this month, where he was thrilled to discuss the “bittersweet” days after Eddie’s death.
“I don’t know why I’m crying. You know when you hear voices and see people you feel the connection with – and you always make me cry. It’s been hard. Very bittersweet,” she told host Hoda Kotb.
Eddie died in October. Wolf was the first to break the news on Twitter.

“He was the best father I could ask for. Every moment I shared with him on stage and outside was a gift,” continued Wolf. “My heart is broken and I don’t think I’ll ever fully recover from that loss.”
