Vacid drives vaccine to millions with hospitals close to breaking point | News

The coronavirus vaccine developed by Oxford University and Astra Zeneca is expected to be approved this week, as the head of the drug giant said it “should be” effective against the new highly transmissible strain of the virus.

Government officials hope the anti-drug agency will give the green light before Thursday, speeding up the supply of the vaccine to 15 million people who could end up in the hospital if they contract the virus.

Astra Zeneca Chief Executive Pascal Soriot reveals today that new data will show that the vaccine is as effective as Pfizer and Moderna jabs that have already been approved, protecting 95% of patients, and “100% effective” in prevention serious illnesses requiring hospital treatment.

Approval for the drug cannot come soon
