Urban Meyer appointed head coach of the Jaguars

JACKSONVILLE – It’s official: Urban Meyer is the new Jaguars coach.

Meyer, one of the most successful coaches in the history of college football, was named the head coach of the Jaguars on Wednesday. The team announced the news in a statement Wednesday.

Meyer, 56, trained collegially in Bowling Green, Utah, Florida and in the state of Ohio. He was 187-32 as a college coach, training Florida for national titles after the 2006 and 2008 seasons and Ohio for a national title after the 2014 season. He was 17-6 at Bowling Green (2001-2002) , 22-2 in Utah (2003-2004), 65-15 in Florida (2005-2010) and 83-9 in the State of Ohio (2012-2018).

Meyer, who will succeed Doug Marrone in the position, becomes the sixth permanent coach in Jaguar’s 27 seasons. Tom Coughlin was head coach from 1995-2002, with Jack Del Rio in 2003-2011, Mike Mularkey in 2012, Gus Bradley in 2013-2016 and Marrone in 2017-2020.

The Jaguars went 1-15 in 2020 and enter the off season holding the No. 1 overall selection in the NFL’s 2021 Draft. This marks the first time that the Jaguars have held No. 1 selection.

The Jaguars general manager position remains open, with the team dismissing David Caldwell from that position on 29 November.
