UFC 258 takes place this Saturday inside UFC APEX, in Las Vegas, and the match of the night will be disputed by the welterweight championship. In the main event, Kamaru Usman will put his perfect UFC title and record at stake in the fight against the scorching Gilbert Burns. The fight is the third title defense for Usman and Burns’ first chance for gold in the UFC.
Burns won six consecutive fights, including 2020 wins over Demian Maia and former welterweight champion Tyron Woodley to win his shot at the title. Usman, who most recently successfully defended his title against Jorge Masvidal at UFC 251, left Sanford MMA, where he was Burns’ partner, to train with Trevor Wittman in preparation for the fight and the attempt to follow his winning streak to 17. One victory would also give Usman the longest winning streak in UFC welterweight history.
