SANTO ANTÓNIO – Texas Department of Transportation officials are asking people to stay off the roads this Wednesday morning after the freezing rain caused an ice sheet in the San Antonio area.
TxDOT reported that dangerous ice conditions are present throughout the region.
The National Meteorological Service reported that as of 2 am the freezing rain and hail event became the worst of all winter events last week.
The ice accumulations were expected to be anywhere from 1/4 to 3/4 inch along / north of I-10, probably causing major power outages and tree damage.

New Braunfels officials reported that as of 3:30 am, all streets and bridges should be considered impassable until further notice.
Authorities said that all streets (city and state) are covered by one to two inches of ice and are beyond treatment and emergency workers may be unable to reach drivers if they need help.
Some of the snow that fell on Sunday night partially melted, but froze again.
San Antonio is expected to have several days of icy roads, which may include black ice.
TxDOT added that drivers should not move or move the barricades.
