Two Gamecocks earn MVP honors in state demonstration game

Three South Carolina prospects associated with Gamecocks’ 2021 recruitment course attended the High School Blitz Senior Showcase Bowl on Saturday. Wide receiver South Pointe (Rock Hill) O’Mega Blake and Marion (Marion) defensive attacker TJ Sanders position won MVP belts. Sumter (Sumter) running back Nathan Harris-Waynick also participated in the game. Blake signed with Gamecocks in December, Sanders is due to sign in February and Harris-Waynick received the offer and accepted a preferential offer from coach Shane Beamer on December 21.

Blake (6-1, 188 pounds) is rated as a three star candidate by the 247Sports Composite, ranked No. 108 nationally in his position and No. 9 in the state of Palmetto.

“Whenever you pick up a guy from South Pointe High School, you know you did something right,” Beamer said of Blake the day he signed on to Carolina. “There is a long line of great players who have left South Pointe High School, and he is next. I expect the next of many, many more, for sure. He comes from a great program and is being coached by a great player up there DeVonte Holloman, who I was with when I was an assistant coach in South Carolina. I really enjoyed talking to DeVonte a lot over the past few weeks. I want to commend you for the excellent program you are running. I’m excited about O’Mega and what he brings to the table. Multi-talented, can do many things, very productive. He’s a guy you really like to talk to. He and I faced each other and came back about seven times on Sunday. He wanted to talk, ask questions, things like that. I am excited about your desire to participate in the program. “

Sanders (6-5,275 pounds) is considered a three-star contender by 247Sports Composite, ranked No. 40 nationally as a defensive tackle and No. 8 in the state. He made a commitment to South Carolina on July 4th. Even without signing in December, he informed TheBigSpur.com that he remains committed to the subscription plan during the traditional national subscription period.

“I didn’t sign on the day of signing because I needed to get to know Coach Beamer a little bit, to decide if I really wanted to play with him,” said Sanders. “He looks like a very cool coach. I can’t wait to play for him. It looks like he’s trying to get the program back in the right direction. “

“My parents and grandparents are Gamecocks and go to all home games,” Harris-Waynick told TheBigSpur.com. “So, we talk a lot about Carolina. We have the best running back room at the SEC and I can’t wait to learn from these guys. This social media attention is really cool, but those kids in that waiting room won’t care about that. I have to go and win everything. Starting from scratch. (My former schoolmates) O’Donnell Fortune he’s my son, but I know that if he gets the chance, he’ll pry my head off in practice.
